  • In India - the definition of Majority and Minority is literally opposite to their conventional meaning. Here 85% majority craves for the indulgence of the 15% minority. Minority is showered with perks while the so called majority is struggling to live. Who actually is in danger? Think about it - Secularism : Majority & Minority

  • Can you justify why Boxing and WWE are called a sport? Is there any sporting attitude involved? The fighters are in the ring to kill each other. Have you ever seen a boxing or WWE fight ending with the two sides shaking hands? - Boxing : is it a game?

  • One unusual weekend in Bangalore. Durga Puja, Bourne, weird cooking, funny snaps, Free stuff; catch all the action here - Weekend in Bangalore

Secularism : Majority & Minority | Thursday, October 25, 2007 |

0

Latest Guest Blogger here is Sukumar Sundaram. He blogs at Suksy's Pensieve. This is what he's got to tell about himself
An introvert who is different from the crowd, who takes pride in being different and being unique, who tries to keep people happy but fails miserably coz of his own "introversy", who does not mind failures and who is happy @ all times, who reads anything and everything under the sun, who listens to all kinds of music and who survives on books, bikes, music and popcorn.. that's quite everything about me! :)
His post follows -

This post is not dedicated to anyone, and not against anyone. It is just a forwarded email which has been copied and pasted over here. I had posted earlier on the same topic and here i go again!

[ Continued in Full Post ]

  • Do you consider that - Sanskrit is communal and Urdu is secular, Mandir is Communal and Masjid is Secular, Sadhu is Communal and Imam is secular, VandeMatharam is communal and Allah-O-Akbar is secular, Shriman is communal and Mian is secular, Hinduism is Communal and Islam is Secular?

  • Why Godhra is blown out of proportion, when no-one talks of the ethnic cleansing of 4 lakh Hindus from Kashmir?

  • When Christian and Muslim schools can teach Bible and Quran, Why Hindus cannot teach Gita in our schools?

  • When Haj pilgrims are given subsidy, why Hindu pilgrims to Amarnath, Sabarimalai & Kailash Mansarovar are taxed?

  • There are nearly 52 Muslim countries. Show one Muslim country which provides Haj subsidy.

  • If Muslims & Christians are minorities in Maharashtra, UP, Bihar etc., are Hindus not minorities in J&K, Mizoram, Nagaland, Arunachal Pradesh, Meghalaya etc? Why are Hindus denied minority rights in these states?

  • In India today Hindus are 85%. If Hindus are intolerant, how come Masjids and madrasas are thriving? How come Muslims are offering Namaz on the road? How come Muslims are proclaiming 5 times a day on loud speakers that there is no God except Allah?

  • Show one Muslim country where Hindus are extended the special rights that Muslims are accorded in India?

  • Show one country where the 85% majority craves for the indulgence of the 15% minority.

  • Show one Muslim country, which has a Non-Muslim as its President or Prime Minister.

  • Show one Mullah or Maulvi who has declared a 'fatwa' against terrorists.

  • Hindu-majority Maharashtra, Bihar, Kerala, Pondicherry , etc. have in the past elected Muslims as CM’s. Can you ever imagine a Hindu becoming the CM of Muslim - majority J&K?

  • In 1947, when India was partitioned, the Hindu population in Pakistan was about 24%. Today it is not even 1%. In 1947, the Hindu population in East Pakistan (now Bangladesh) was 30%. Today it is about 7%. What happened to the missing Hindus? Do Hindus have human rights?

And why do you feel that we are "showing off" our majority status and pointing at the "minorities" by celebrating our festivals??? Why are you ignoring the fact that we do celebrate the minority festivals too.. we do have Christmas and easter get together, we do have social meetings on the occasions of ramzan, id and moharram where everyone participates.

Boxing : is it a game? | Tuesday, October 23, 2007 |

0

Saw some good and some lousy movies these weekend. Best of them was 'Ratatouille'. Pixar animation studios has never disappointed me. Not only their animation is of the highest quality, the storyline is also always good. Anyways, it was couple of other movies that got my attention. Aryan and Apne. WWEBoth these movies revolve around the 'other sports in India' - namely Boxing. Aryan was worthless but Apne reminded me of one old movie on the same lines - Jigar. That was about martial art fighting. After watching these movies, I wonder how can Boxing be called a sport where there's constant possibility of people dieing or getting maimed for life....!!!

[ Continued in Full Post ]

As if only Boxing wasn't enough, there's WWE. People are nothing less than wild beasts there. I really don't know what protections the fighters take before entering the ring or technicality involved in these 'sports'. All I see is one fighter punching the other with all his might, puffed blackened eyes, bloody noses et al. The little biology I've studied tells me that one hard blow just above the ears or on lungs could prove fatal. When so much risk of life is involved - why the hell is it allowed to take place by the govt. And, why the hell is it called a sport? Is there any sporting attitude involved? The fighters are in the ring to kill each other. Have you ever seen a boxing or WWE fight ending with the two sides shaking hands? There's no component of sport here - except for the audience.

Gladiator FightsAudience - that's another thing that baffles me. How can anyone enjoy these fights? You gotta be inhuman to love to watch a man bleed. This reminds me of Gladiator games during Roman times. Slaves were used as Gladiators, pitted against each other, royal soldiers, lions and what not...!!! The game always ended with the Gladiator being killed in the field and all audience hooting at it. Romans have indeed left their legacy behind. Though we don't have gladiators now, we have new forms of the same - Boxing, WWE, BullFights et al. Do they deserve to be called sports? Isn't it a blot on the face of sporting spirit around the world?

Weekend in Bangalore | Monday, October 22, 2007 |

0

This weekend was longer than usual. No, not hypothetically. Really it was. Friday the 19th was also a holiday, owing to the Durga Puja. Well, it doesn't feel like Durga Puja here in Bangalore. Back home in Bengal, Durga puja is the biggest event every year. But here, no trace of that except for some friends fasting for navaratri and Ayudh Puja at office. Well, I don't do fasting n Puja n all that. I don't believe in all these. It's not that I'm an atheist. It's just that I can't fathom these 'technique' of pleasing the gods. I mean, through-out the year you're doing sins, eating chicken, boozing, cursing god for your hardship; and suddenly during puja time - U become all saint, go veg and praising the god for their blessings. It's just like govt. officials' behavior during special inspection. Whom are we faking?

Tomato Onion StewAnyways, I'm not here to give my judgment on religions. Lemme update you with some happenings of this weekend. Last week I'd seen Bourne Ultimatum. Was so much mesmerized by it that I started reading the next installment of the series Bourne Legacy immediately after that. Finished it this Saturday night and then found out that there's no food in the kitchen. I was so engrossed in reading the final chapters that I didn't take dinner and by the time I finished, it was past midnight. All shops closed and nothing in kitchen. That made me more hungry. :(

[ Continued in Full Post ]

After thorough search of the kitchen - all I found was onions and tomato. What the hell...!! What do I do with these? But with nothing else at hand, that's what I used. Made something like a stew / soup of tomato and onion. Though it didn't look good - it tasted great. :$ Maybe because I was damn hungry. Learnt my lesson - always keep some provisions in kitchen - atleast one Maggie pack.

Emergency ProvisionsSo, 1st thing on Sunday - I did some kitchen shopping, primarily some 'emergency' eatables; Maggie, Biscuits, chips. They could've lasted for a week. But, when the food is in kitchen - who's stopping me...?? :$ Half the provision is already consumed. It's still depleting as I write this. Go figure.

Ok, some more laughing stock for you. Last week we had a friendly mini 20-20 match with live commentary, own press coverage et al. :D The photographer was a little ameture and thanks to that, we got some really funny snaps. See two of them below. Click them to open in full size. Now, which one do you find more funny? Cast your opinion in the poll box.

Pic 1 : GuyPic 2 : Gal

Free photo prints from ZoomInOh, another high point of last week was the free color photo prints from ZoomIn. That really made my week. Every now and then I'm taking out the snaps from my closet and peering at them. I'm like a child who's got his 1st B'day gift. :) When everything is going digital, there are some things that are better in the conventional way. Just as a handwritten mail delivered to your doorstep is better than an email; a hardcopy photograph is better than a digital photo on your computer screen. And when you get it for free, what more can you ask for? So, if you want your digital photos to be printed for free, drop your email id as comment here [Click 'Leave a Reply' below]. I'll send you a referral link asap. You'll get 30 free prints for Rs28 [courier charges] if you use my referral link.

I hate you 'D' | Thursday, October 18, 2007 |

2

Have you ever hated someone? Of 'course you have. But have you ever hated someone so much so that you start hating everything around him / her; to the extent of hating yourself when he / she is around you? I doubt it. I hate this gal 'D' more than all the hatred in the world put together. And every single moment - it keeps increasing. I hate her more than I love anyone. I had never imagined that I could loathe someone so much, that I can have such extremely heightened negative feeling for someone. It's like a hellfire burning the insides of me like a coal mine. When unleashed, it'd render everything around to ashes. But it hasn't always been like this.

[ Continued in Full Post]

When I first met this gal 'D' November last year, she appeared to be a cute innocent bubbly gal. She was a bit apprehensive, thus unapproachable at times. I took it to be a girly cautious attitude. To be honest, at one point of time, I was all smitten by her and used to think about her all day long. But that was short-lived. Slowly her darker side was surfacing. She is among those kind of gals who use their charm to manipulate others and get own work done. If you are of some use to her, she'll nicely flirt with you and cajole you into doing her work. Otherwise, she'll bitch about you on your back. Even that is quite a common attitude among gals. Where she outruns all other is - she's the most snobbish person I've ever seen. Once she doesn't have any use of you in near future, she'll publicly humiliate you for no reason. Or maybe, just to please own superior ego. :@

Know what .... I am just unable to describe her. Words fail to justify her image. She's the worst kind of creature deceiving everyone under cover of a gals soft skin. I came to know of her real side once we were out shopping for a gift. And later on, during a group-movie-outing. After those couple of bad experiences with her, I've been just neglecting her, as if she doesn't exist. Still, every site of her gets me enraged beyond means. So, avoiding her was the only thing I could do. That wasn't that difficult. Until now ...

Whole of this week I had to withstand her. Had to travel twice a day with her, stay late-nights with her and remain calm. That was hard. I just can't tell you how hard it is for me not to reach across and punch her on the face. With her around, I just suffocate. I feel like throwing and breaking things, shouting my lungs out, tearing things apart. So much so that I can even hurt / bleed myself. Ohhh, I'll give anything to see her writhing in pain. But I can't do it myself. I can't be a witch like her. She's a pro.

I know this all is giving her too much importance. But I really can't help it. She has this 'black-magic' effect on me. I loose all my sane senses and start boiling with anger and disgust. I wish she gets married soon and moves to some other city and lets me rest in peace. BtW, my heart felt consolation for the poor groom to be. He's doomed.

Bourne Ultimatum : Ultimate | Monday, October 15, 2007 |

Bourne Ultimatum Poster
The last week had been really tough on me. What with the Axis Bank CC problem, 10 grand fraud, Friends crossing the limit, et al. But apart from all these - last week I also saw some good movies. In fact, it was line-up of movies. Shrek 3, Doom, Vivah, Awarapan, Ghost Rider etc etc. But the best two movies were - Die Hard 4 and Bourne Ultimatum.

If you are a spy movie fanatic, you must MUST watch Bourne Ultimatum. This one is the best Bourne movie till date. Or should I say - best spy movie till date ...!! At least, it surely is the best I've seen. Bourne can easily make Bond run for his money. There are no flashing gadgets and Aston martin chase or hot bond babes here. Still the movie excels on its setup and crisp editing. You're in midst of action from the very first frame and almost all scenes keeps you on edge of your seat. You just can't control your adrenalin rush. By the end of the movie - U might walk out of the hall with all your nails chewed off. If you don't wanna spend your money on this [i.e, Rs 160 for the ticket], just drop me a mail. I'll take you to the movie on my expenses and pay for your tickets *. Don't miss this one.

[ Continued in Full Post ]

The best scene of the movie is the one after Neal Daniels' car is bombed ifo the bank in Tangier. It's a who's chasing whom setup - where the hunter becomes the hunted. CIA assassin Desh is given the task of killing Daniel, Nicky Parsons misguides him for a minute and her cover is blown, Desh assigned additional task of taking down Nicky & Bourne. After finishing off Daniel - Desh finds Nicky and is on her tail; meanwhile Bourne is on his tail. All this time, the police is chasing Bourne. This chase scene is much better and thrilling than any car chase scene in any spy movie. Nicky - sensing the trouble makes a run - dropping his cell components piece by piece on road - thus leaving her trail for Bourne to pick up. But the assassin is fast gaining up on her and she's cornered in an alley. Every fraction of second - I was praying "Nicky, please don't die. :# Bourne - get to her FAST. Get off - you jerk assassin" :@ . These scene is just so gripping. Weak hearts might just faint here.

Speaking of Nicky Parsons - played by Julia Stiles. She's just an eye-candy here. Though she lacks any expressions on face and needs some serious classes of acting - you never get bored of her. You never get enough of her and keep asking for more. She hardly moves her lips as if they are sewed together. Still they look so much irresistibly kissable. Through out the movie - she carries the same expression on her face - which is dampener to the movie but is a treat to the viewer. That round face, highlighted by flowing long hairs adoring her cheeks and curling n floating just above her shoulder, tiny sparks of fear in her twinkling eyes, gentle shaking voice - it all gives her a damsel in distress image. You just feel like reaching out, taking her in your arms and reassuring that everything will be alright. :$

One disappointment from this movie was the character of Pam Landy. She was the HERO of the movie last time around [ in Bourne Supremacy ]. But in this installment - she's reduced to a mere protesting figure - out of action. So, the few scenes where she outruns the boss - Noah - it just peps me up. Like the first scene where she zero's in on Neal Daniels. And the climax scene where she's caught by Noah with his confidential documents. But she's already faxed them and the tables are turned. "You'd better get yourself a good lawyer". Nerves of steel. Way to go, woman.

Movie ends with a desert. Ever since Nicky was sent off in hiding, I've been wondering whether I'll see more of her in this movie...!!! And sure I did. She was back at the climax but just for a few seconds - smiling at the news that Bourne's body has not been found in the river. She's cut her hairs short. So, I was kinda disappointed. Nonetheless, happy to see her one final time.

Press is calling this one the final of the series. But I guess it isn't. There's already 2 more books of this series - Bourne Legacy and Bourne Betrayal, last one released in India recently. So, there are surely gonna be future installments of the movie. Looking forward to them eagerly. For the time being, am reading Bourne Legacy, my first Bourne series read. Baffled to know that his wife Marie, shown killed in Goa, India in the 2nd movie - is still alive in the 4th book. But doesn't really matter to me. This movie series doesn't fail where most other 'novel made into movie' fails. Go watch it. Don't wait for the DVD to come out.

Friends crossing the limit | Wednesday, October 10, 2007 |

4

As if the Axis Bank CC problem and the 10 grand fraud wasn't enough for a day, couple of more painful incidents occurred today. Both involving close friends and at the end the day - both left me pissed off; :@ so much so that I felt like ---- like ---- I donno. Have you ever felt like killing people....???

[ Continued in Full Post ]

The first blow took me completely off-guard. Won't write about it here in detail as he/she forbed me to do so. The crux is - One of my closest friend is miffed by something I did but won't tell me what it is. He/She made it clear that he/she is dead angry but won't let me know "about what?" - leave alone letting me clear the air. With this grudge between us - I wonder how long 'WE' is gonna survive. Do I feel something being torn away from me.....??? :k

Towards the eve - this grief almost doubled up. I forgot to lock my PC before going for a coffee. One friend of mine pinged me on GTalk and my colleague took advantage of the situation. When I was back at the desk, he was just setting up to respond something to him/her which surely wasn't nice. As I ran to stop him, all other colleagues around there caught hold of me and pulled me back. Only pinning me down to the ground was left. Meanwhile, that 1st colleague sent his msg to my friend on GTalk. Others left me as the 'damage was done'. All people around me had this devilish smirk on their faces. They were basking on the cheap pleasure achieved out of this. I immediately pinged him/her back that it wasn't me but my colleague who sent the last msg. But he/she refused to believe.

Great, now even he/she doesn't trust me. I was already heavy with existing loads. Already had lost the closest friend this morning [well - almost]. This one was the last nail on the coffin. I felt like tearing apart everyone around me. :@ When they were holding me back, I had this terrible urge to punch one of them [within my fist's reach] hard on the face. I was gonna curse them in worst possible language. MC BC et al. But then no one would have seen that they are at the wrong end. They would've reacted as if I've done something unsocial. :o All will say that I don't have manners, am a foul mouth, not a team-player, high-handed, blah blah blah. I was so damn irritated that I was gonna log-out and head home that very moment. But then, this friend of mine [who had pinged me on GTalk] mellowed down a bit and continued chatting. Even though he/she didn't fully trust my clarification, guess he/she didn't give the incident undue attention. Thanks for that.

Nonetheless, this last experience was so damn frustrating. There's always a certain limit in every relation that should never be crossed. And my colleagues come friends did just that this evening. You're pulling my leg - that's ok. But if you are abusing my close-ones by impersonating me - that is just not tolerable. Think about it. U r not just pulling out a joke. U r ruining a relationship. And you have no right to do that.

Friend or Fraud? | |

0

Oh great. Things are getting worse every day. And at the end of today, the problems just increased three-fold, apart from the existing Axis Bank CC problem. One is financial, rest two - relational.

1st one - I've been duped off 10 solids grands. :o Rs. 10000. Yeah, it's just four '0's - but that's a lot for me - specially when it just went down the drain. Who brought about that? Well, that'd be one of my friends, my PG-mate Vishal. This guy was from Mumbai and working in Mphasis here. He was staying at the PG before we came-in. He's always been there and soon became one of us. One 'fine' day he cried to me that his bro had met with an accident on Mumbai-Pune expressway and died on the spot. He needs to fly to Mumbai immediately and needs 10k. With that much money involved - I went a bit nervous. But soon his tears :k [now which seems like that of Crock's] melted my cautions. I gave him 8k from my account and arranged for the rest from my friends. He promised to settle this as soon as he's in Mumbai; left his bike [one old jerk-off 2-stroke bike] in the basement [but took the keys n papers] and left. Or should I say - eloped. 'coz that was the last I've seen him - 14th June '07.

[ Continued in Full Post ]

He was supposed to be back in 2 weeks; 3 at max. But even after 50 days - there was neither a sign of him or the money. My fears were taking shape. Only silver lining was that his cellphone was still active. He kept assuring me that he'll be back soon. But he was just bull-shitting us. Later he tweaked it a bit and started saying that he'll be back soon or will transfer the money to my account. Another bull-shit. It's been 4 months now - no money.

People fear cops more than they fear criminals

Been trying hard to bring him to docs. But there are some dampeners. I don't have his Mumbai home address, home phone number, photo, employee id number - nothing. :# So, there's no way to track him on my own. His cellphone is the only connection - which he can turn-off any moment. Only thing that could help me here are the cops. But the kind of reputation they've got - I doubt whether they'll even listen to me. I had pondered on the idea of lodging a FIR against him. But friends told me that they won't put even a single word of mine on record and will shoo me away. People fear cops more than they fear criminals. What world we are living in...!!! :x

In ideal situation, Vishal can be nabbed in no more than 2 days. His details can be obtained from his Mphasis office, and he can be traced down by his active mobile and caught. But all these needs cop action. Neither will the Mphasis give me its employee's details nor will vodafone engage a mobile trace on him on my request. Cops can do all these pretty fast and easily. But will they work on my case? I doubt it. Seen a Bangalore City Police website this morning. Thought of submitting my case there. But then again .... involving cops .... I've got to think it over. BTW, does that site have any weightage?

Guess I'm in a hopeless situation and the return of my money is at total mercy of this jerk. Thought of selling off his bike. But with no key and no paper and the bike under land-lords 'protection' - things are a bit gloomy. All these 'coz I trusted a friend. Who do you trust then? All the world's an enemy...

Have you got any ideas for me? What do I do? If you've got any bright ideas that can bring Vishal to docs - I'd be delighted to know it. If you are a cop reading this - would u please see to it that I get justice? And cop uncle, please don't try to teach me a lesson instead. I'm too afraid of that.

Had enough...?? This is just one of the things that I tackled today. There are couple of other things that pained me today. Check 'em here.

Beware of Axis Bank Credit cards | Monday, October 08, 2007 |

11

The week didn't start quite well, though the night before was quite good. Had seen Tranformers with friends, good print and sound, though without subtitles. But this morning - felt the Monday Morning Blues for the first time after finishing college. Was having a terrible pain in legs as if I won't be able to stand n walk. Mal-nutrition of weekend, I guess. Didn't quite feel like coming to office. Was idly playing with my mobile. Shwetha's new number popped up on its screen. So, just gave her a ring. That pepped me up. All these days I was wondering if I can make a call from my mobile..!! Silly me. :$

Axis Bank LogoThe day wasn't destined to be good. Last Friday night I had received a msg from Axis bank to make my credit card payments. What the hell...!!! I had registered a complain with the bank earlier last month and they had said that I won't have to pay any late fine. But now here it is again. Lemme tell u in detail - why u should be beware of Axis Bank cards -

[ Continued in Full Post ]

At the time of applying, I was told ke this is a Lifetime Free Credit Card. And I'll receive one complementary free flight ticket after making 1st transaction with this card and paying for it. But when I received the card, the bundled documents stated that I have to pay some annual fee and joining fee. Upon giving a call to the bank, I was told ke "There's no Lifetime Free offer in Axis bank cards and I've signed the application form where the fees are stated". That's great. Do you read the whole 5 - 6 page of documentation thoroughly before applying for a card? Huh .... this makes one thing clear - Lesson 1 : Axis bank is cheater. They lie to you to make u fall for its card and later show you the papers. So, read the papers before u sign it.

Credit CardAnyways, I did make the payments after receiving the first statement. Now I was waiting for the free flight voucher to arrive, which was expected within 30 days. But even after 50 days, I didn't receive any communication from Axis bank. No further card-statements [as I didn't make any fresh purchases], no voucher. Again I registered one complain with the bank. I was told I'll receive the voucher in 10 days. After 10 days - I did receive a mail from Axis bank, but not the voucher but another card statement - showing a balance of some Rs 300. Again I made a call to Axis bank. They said - this one is due to late payment of my 1st bill. What....?? I checked my 1st card-statement and found that the due date was 5th of July, whereas I had received the statement on 13th of July. Great. They said "Even if you didn't get your statement, U should've kept track of your due date and due amount yourself and should've made the payment. Bank is not responsible for late delivery of statements. That is written in the T&C book mailed along with the card". Wow. Great. Lesson 2 : Axis bank sends you the card-statement 10 days after the due date, so that you'll have to pay late fine, interest, charges and so forth; for no mistake of yours.

Irritating thing was, even this second statement was delivered 10 days after the due date for that month [sep]. In this way, even if I pay this Rs300 now, next month I'd have again received another late-payment statement [which I eventually did] for another Rs 300 and the cycle will repeat. Anyway, if I was to pay a late payment charge for a statement of July month, I should've got the statement asking for the late-payment on August. But nope, I got it on September, 1 month completely wiped out. Guess they are reacting to my previous complain of not receiving the flight voucher. Lesson 3 : If you make a complain - Axis bank will harras you in other ways.

I guess I'm now legally entitled to use the 'F' word against the Axis bank.

Anyways, I stood my ground and asked to register my complain in this regard. They did that and later told me that I won't have to pay anything. The charges are rolled back. I sighed in relief. But that didn't last long. Last friday [5th Oct] at 1o PM, I received one SMS from Axis Bank saying "your credit card bill for amount Rs 606.07 is due for payment on 05-Oct-07. Kindly ensure minimum payment". I guess I'm now legally entitled to use the 'F' word against the Axis bank :@ .

Called up Axis bank again today. After listening to me, he asked me to "Wait a minute while I check the records". I was put on hold for almost 6-7 minutes [U think it's not much? Try listening to the ting-ting music of their on-hold tone for a couple of minutes]. Then he mercifully picked up the phone and told me that the charges have been rolled back and the statement that I'll receive this month will show that I don't have to pay anything. He took my mail id and told me that he'll send the statement right away to this id. I hung up and waited.

When the mail arrived, it was another shocker. The statement was attached as a PDF file and though the mail said that I'll need a password to open the file [as is the norm], I actually didn't need one. The statement file opened without any password - with my card number clearly mentioned on the statement. What a security ....!!!

That was just one thing. The statement itself irritated me beyond anything. Even this statement was saying ke I'll have to pay Rs 606.07 - due date 5th Oct. Did I mentioned that I haven't yet received the statement hard copy and got this email only after explicitly asking for it? i.e., I'll again receive another statement next month asking for Rs 900 as late-fine for the 3rd month. Was now heavily cursing Axis. Called up again. This time it took 15 minutes to get through the wait. Again the person over the phone said that I don't have to pay anything, he had forwarded it to highest proper authorities, so and so.

Can't really trust these people. Every time I call, I'm assured that the complain is registered and all's good. But again I'm sent one statement as if they never heard anything from me. The cycle repeates. I tell you, U must be really careful before applying for any credit-card. Whatever you do, don't fall for the trap of Axis-bank.

Got a new person to join my team. Actually, to start a team. Guys n Gals, put your hands together to welcome Ria Shah in my blogging world. She is now the co-author of my blog vicky @ work. She primarily blogs at Invincible, her own blog. But now that she's a part of my team, hope she'll spend more time here to cash in on the popularity of my blogs - to reach a wider audience. ;)

Jokes apart, it's really my pleasure to have her write on my blog. She's an avid blogger and writes from the heart; Hates plagiarism and makes her opinion count. She's a good friend of mine and it's she who gave me the idea of allowing Guest Posts on my blogs. Check her first guest post on my blog - Knowing a Friend. Another guest post is on its way. In the meantime, she's posted her maiden author post on my blog vicky @ work - New eye candy for gay community. Give her a royal welcome and the same support that you've always shown me. Head over there. Cheers.

Knowing a friend | Thursday, October 04, 2007 |

Ever since I floated the 'Get Famous. Get Featured' campaign, there were two people whose post I always wanted to feature here. Shwetha Satish and Ria Shah, both being my close friends. Ria had reacted to one of my posts - GLSP : Repercussion 2 which could've been posted as a 'Guest Post'. But I was waiting for a post from Shwetha as I wanted her to be my 1st 'Guest Blogger'. And as she was busy settling down in her new surroundings, she took a little time to send me her post. Finally, I got her post - New shores of Life and published it. Sadly, by this time - Ria's post was outdated. So, asked her to send me a new post. She sportingly wrote another post for me - which was full of praises for me. I was elated but didn't feel like publishing this one. But this time Ria stood her ground and insisted that I publish this post. She made few changes to it and 'ordered' :p me to publish it. So, here's her post -

I wrote a GUEST POST for one of my friend’s blog the crux of it is how really good he is at blogging, and how incredible his blogs are. This is what I wrote to him -

This guy Vicky writes about anyone and everyone. So I thought let me write something about him! But the problem is that I don't even know him really, but still I want to try!

I started blogging, not exactly knowing that ye blogging nahi hai aasan :D There is so much to learn! I don't understand things quite often though I try really hard to learn. But I guess it's not my forte. Then comes Mr Bikram Agarwal to my rescue. I have really learnt quite a lot from him. He is simply incredible nd impeccable as far as blogging is concerned! Hey Vicky, why don't you start lessons on blogging!! But hey, I wont be your first official student. Why should I pay you for something which I 'm getting for free? ;) And hey, my smilies are not tacky okk!! :p

I think you are a guy with golden heart, lovely human being, too emotional and quite helpful. But I wonder whether you ever laugh, sorry smile :P If you think I am buttering you, then its your gross mistake. But if you think I am flirting with you, then you are absolutely right … ;) … :p

I wanted this content to be published at any cost!! But this was his revert, when I asked him to publish it:-
VICKY SAID-
Your words are really nice and flattering. And your writing style is quite commendable. But I guess I can't publish this one on my blog. This one would look like an advertisement campaign. People will think that I'm asking my friends to write a promotion / recommendation post for myself. And as I'm the one publishing it - it becomes self-praising post. Muuh Miya Mitthhu kinda thing. I hope you understand my point.

I am feeling so embarrassed that this is the second time I'm not able to publish your 'guest-post'. Chhhho Chhorrry. Hope U'r not angry on me - r u? Please understand my stand. I'm not biased against U. I'm really looking forward to publish one post from you. Please write something about the society, or you or anything that makes an interesting read for the visitors - not related to me or past issues.

What an excuse.... :@ Confronted him over chat -
Ria:u think i am a fool?????
Me:what?
You write something good about me and I publish it on my blog for people to read

Me:y insist on this?
Won't u write something else for me?

Me:U'r angry with me for not publishing your earlier post - aren't u?
Ria:no...bt now i definitly m..for nt publishing ths one
10 mins silence
Me:u still angry?
Hello000 ....
Ria:no
Me:that's a classic example of "Girls mean YES when they say NO".
Ria:bt i belong to another category....u r tooooooooooo experienced, arent u??
Me:I guess. And that's y I think U mean yes.
symptom 1 : U r taking long time to reply

Do we really love Cricket? | Wednesday, October 03, 2007 |

0

The 2nd Guest Post is by Uttam Sarkar, one of my colleagues. His post is in response to my earlier post Everything back to cricket. I had cross-posted it on our intranet also, which drew wide-spread reactions. Hear out what he's got to say -

There was an interesting posting in the intranet ‘Everything back to Cricket’, there were few comments on that. As we are living in a democratic country we all have the right to express our views. It’s very tough to say who is right and who is wrong. One thing is sure - we are all cricket lovers. But that also made me think which part of Cricket we really love or worship? If a simple question is asked “Are you a Cricket fan?” May be 99% will answer in affirmative “Yes, I’m”. Yes, we are all…we know the rules of the game, we know what is leg-by, what is play down, what is square cut, what is bowl-out. Yes, we know the pat between Chappell and Saurav. Some of us can give you India’s next two years international schedule or tell you how many sports bikes MS Dhoni is having specifying their horse power, someone may surprise us telling Sachin’s wife Anjali Tendulkar’s DOB. The way we cheered Yuvi’s six sixes, the way we danced in front of TV set after beating South Africa and Australia, the way we shouted and danced once Shreesanth took Misbah’s catch of Joginder Singh, it was just unparalleled. We distributed sweets, one of my friends spoiled her voice after cheering for India. We welcomed our victorious T20 World Champion team giving them salutes and showering with huge prize money, which they deserve. Similarly, we did not even hesitate to chase poor Dhoni’s look-a-like and was forced to tonsure his head after India’s World Cup debacle in West Indies. These are no doubt we Eat Cricket, Drink Cricket and Sleep Cricket!! But I have a hidden doubt, is this Cricket or a specific part of Cricket we are crazy for?

[ Continued in Full Post ]

Let me go one step down from International Cricket; let’s focus on our domestic Cricket. I’m not sure how many of that ‘99%’ cricket fans follow Ranji Cricket and can recall the names who represent their state in Ranji Trophy in a single go. If we can manage the names, it may be too hard to say where our state stands except last four teams. I’m not sure how many of us know that 21 years old Manoj Tiwari and 29 years old Ranadeb Bose of Bengal were the highest run getter and highest wicket taker respectively in the last season’s domestic Cricket. The names like Amol Mazumdar of Mumbai and Kanwaljit Singh of Hyderabad, who are at the edge of retirement from Cricket remained inside the empty stadium as nobody cheered for them except those 30 white dressed gentlemen.

If there is an International Cricket match we can see there is a long queue 24 hrs before opening the ticket counter, people do not mind spending the night in the queue. Nobody minds if you just sign in and sign out saying “Wow!! there is a India-Pakistan match yaar”. If it is a domestic match? Very few of us know who is playing and for what they are playing in an empty stadium. It is as if those 30 white dressed gentlemen have no work in the world they are just doing time pass. We don’t even realize that those 30 white dressed gentlemen are in the way of making another Sachin, Sourav, Rahul, Yuvraj or Dhoni for whom we will cry if they fail and we will not hesitate to spoil our voice by cheering if they win.

When we see a new face into Indian team we keep wondering whether he bowls or bats until he figures in last eleven. Just few day back when Rohit Sharma lifted last ball six of Van der Wath and played a superb innings, very next match we could see a girl holding a placard ‘Rohit Sharma, will you marry me’. He became a national hero. A complete TOI page on him. This same Mumbai lad Rohit Sharma once smashed a 45 balls century in domestic T20 Cricket, he is the only T20 centurion in Indian Cricket. I guess not all ‘99%’ knew this before that innings.

even cows had free access in that multi-purpose stadium

The media coverage for International match - I don't need to say anything; but for domestic Cricket - it's just ‘8 cm X 12 cm’ area in the last page to cover at least four matches. Live coverage for domestic Cricket is awful; the broadcaster uses the minimum optimal cameras to cover the game. The energy level of the commentator is as if he was on fast for last two days and just taking care of the equipments. Once I had the privilege of watching Assam-Bengal Ranji Group match. The pitch was slightly better than our clay roads and I guess even cows had free access in that multi-purpose stadium when there is no match.

Yes, BCCI has increased the prize money for domestic Cricket. These domestic Cricket heroes manage to get a job in some good public sectors. Is money the only reason we all are crazy for Cricket?

Dear friends, my intention is not to hurt anybody’s sentiments towards the game or doubt anybody’s Cricketing knowledge. After yesterday’s topic in the intranet I thought - do we really love Cricket or we just love our Cricketers? Are we real Cricket Fan or just fan of International Cricket?

These are the reactions to this post in our Intrnet -

Jayateerth R Katti : Great thought Uttam..
This forced me to think that I am only International cricket fan :(

Sandeep Sharma :Definitely !! It is surprising we do not love our cricket but kinda love media attention.
Wherever media focuses attention, we start following that. It is also in our mind. We are biased against domestic cricket. Organizers are to be blamed for this, who neither publish schedule nor market or advertise it well. Also, they do not provide good pitches and stadium to domestic cricketers.

May be ICL this year could bring about those changes. Like we see new enthusiasm on hockey side where India is beating all opponents by huge margin.....

Here's my blog's first 'Guest-Blogger' post. Shwetha is one of my best friends and someone with whom I can share everything. She recently met her soul-mate and is currently in Sunnyvale, US. She sent me a short description of her new life there. Read on -

I hear the door shut behind him. I hear the clinging of his keys as he makes his way towards the door that leads to stairs. I stand at the door till the sound of his footsteps on the stairs recede. I close the door behind me. Now I need time to accustom to his absence. I sometimes smell his wet towel fresh from his bath just few minutes ago. I look into the mirror and say to myself, "It has been a month almost". And then smile at myself. Blush and get conscious if he is around only to realize he is not at home now. I pat on my forehead and laugh at myself.

[ Continued in Full Post ]

I brew a cup tea for myself. Itz cold outside. The California weather, I'm in love with it even though it makes me dress in layers. Umm..the tea, the taste of tea. I no longer relish the taste of tea that I used to like sometime back. He likes his tea to be very light with very little sugar. It reminds me of milk-coffee we used to have as kids at granny's home. Milk-coffee is coffee with lots of milk. Prepared mainly yielding to the tantrums of kids for wanting to do things on par with elders. The taste of my tea has changed, the world outside has also changed for me.

Being in love, is altogether a different feeling. As I sit sipping tea, I think of last one month. So much has changed and yet so much has remained the same. There is still a tinge of mehndi on my feet. Reminding me that I'm married now. I say to myself, "Time flies so fast". I think of him. I can see him more clearly than ever before. Earlier he used to look different to me every time I looked at him. Now, I know his face, his expressions. I smile thinking, if I hadn't married him I would have missed out on one of the few best men in the world. In him I find a father, mother, mentor, husband, lover and a friend. Sometimes I can see all of them together in him and depending on the situation I see any one them.

He has come up with many more names for me - Dummi, Dephi, Dabali, all meaning fatso. Hahaha. :p He calls me so more out of love than because I'm little fat. I can say that because he keeps watch on if I'm eating well or not. He treats me like his child most of the times. Remember that morning when I was sick with splitting headache and he didn't wake me up that morning though he had to leave very early. In half sleep I murmured, "I want tablet. Headache". He came to me with a glass of water and made me take the tablets. I was slowly drifting to sleep when I heard his hurried footsteps towards the door. I realized he was late. Waking up very late that day, I found a glass of tea and a bowl of cereal on the kitchen slab. My eyes were moist when I had the tea till its last sip.

I love his laughter. He laughs with his heart out. Makes loud sound, showing all his teeth. I must say he takes very good care of his teeth. He has 2-3 toothbrushes! He uses floss and mouthwash regularly. When he tells me, "You miss brushing at night many times and you don't use mouthwash", he sounds like a concerned parent. When he teaches me how to cook food and then how to taste it to check on it, he sounds like a teacher. When he gets irritated because I made him wait for long while shopping, he sounds like typical husband. When he enjoys giving in to my romantic overtures like candle-night dinner, moonlight dinner or tea on the grass by fountain side, he is like my dream lover. When I cry over his shoulder on some matter, he listens to me and consoles me like a friend, a true and dear friend. Of course for each of his roles, I can give more than one instances.

I'm done with my tea. I hear someone pinging on gtalk. Oh! It's him inquiring what I'm doing. Now this is an instance of all-in-one role of him!
