Beware of Axis Bank Credit cards | Monday, October 08, 2007

The week didn't start quite well, though the night before was quite good. Had seen Tranformers with friends, good print and sound, though without subtitles. But this morning - felt the Monday Morning Blues for the first time after finishing college. Was having a terrible pain in legs as if I won't be able to stand n walk. Mal-nutrition of weekend, I guess. Didn't quite feel like coming to office. Was idly playing with my mobile. Shwetha's new number popped up on its screen. So, just gave her a ring. That pepped me up. All these days I was wondering if I can make a call from my mobile..!! Silly me. :$

Axis Bank LogoThe day wasn't destined to be good. Last Friday night I had received a msg from Axis bank to make my credit card payments. What the hell...!!! I had registered a complain with the bank earlier last month and they had said that I won't have to pay any late fine. But now here it is again. Lemme tell u in detail - why u should be beware of Axis Bank cards -

At the time of applying, I was told ke this is a Lifetime Free Credit Card. And I'll receive one complementary free flight ticket after making 1st transaction with this card and paying for it. But when I received the card, the bundled documents stated that I have to pay some annual fee and joining fee. Upon giving a call to the bank, I was told ke "There's no Lifetime Free offer in Axis bank cards and I've signed the application form where the fees are stated". That's great. Do you read the whole 5 - 6 page of documentation thoroughly before applying for a card? Huh .... this makes one thing clear - Lesson 1 : Axis bank is cheater. They lie to you to make u fall for its card and later show you the papers. So, read the papers before u sign it.

Credit CardAnyways, I did make the payments after receiving the first statement. Now I was waiting for the free flight voucher to arrive, which was expected within 30 days. But even after 50 days, I didn't receive any communication from Axis bank. No further card-statements [as I didn't make any fresh purchases], no voucher. Again I registered one complain with the bank. I was told I'll receive the voucher in 10 days. After 10 days - I did receive a mail from Axis bank, but not the voucher but another card statement - showing a balance of some Rs 300. Again I made a call to Axis bank. They said - this one is due to late payment of my 1st bill. What....?? I checked my 1st card-statement and found that the due date was 5th of July, whereas I had received the statement on 13th of July. Great. They said "Even if you didn't get your statement, U should've kept track of your due date and due amount yourself and should've made the payment. Bank is not responsible for late delivery of statements. That is written in the T&C book mailed along with the card". Wow. Great. Lesson 2 : Axis bank sends you the card-statement 10 days after the due date, so that you'll have to pay late fine, interest, charges and so forth; for no mistake of yours.

Irritating thing was, even this second statement was delivered 10 days after the due date for that month [sep]. In this way, even if I pay this Rs300 now, next month I'd have again received another late-payment statement [which I eventually did] for another Rs 300 and the cycle will repeat. Anyway, if I was to pay a late payment charge for a statement of July month, I should've got the statement asking for the late-payment on August. But nope, I got it on September, 1 month completely wiped out. Guess they are reacting to my previous complain of not receiving the flight voucher. Lesson 3 : If you make a complain - Axis bank will harras you in other ways.

I guess I'm now legally entitled to use the 'F' word against the Axis bank.

Anyways, I stood my ground and asked to register my complain in this regard. They did that and later told me that I won't have to pay anything. The charges are rolled back. I sighed in relief. But that didn't last long. Last friday [5th Oct] at 1o PM, I received one SMS from Axis Bank saying "your credit card bill for amount Rs 606.07 is due for payment on 05-Oct-07. Kindly ensure minimum payment". I guess I'm now legally entitled to use the 'F' word against the Axis bank :@ .

Called up Axis bank again today. After listening to me, he asked me to "Wait a minute while I check the records". I was put on hold for almost 6-7 minutes [U think it's not much? Try listening to the ting-ting music of their on-hold tone for a couple of minutes]. Then he mercifully picked up the phone and told me that the charges have been rolled back and the statement that I'll receive this month will show that I don't have to pay anything. He took my mail id and told me that he'll send the statement right away to this id. I hung up and waited.

When the mail arrived, it was another shocker. The statement was attached as a PDF file and though the mail said that I'll need a password to open the file [as is the norm], I actually didn't need one. The statement file opened without any password - with my card number clearly mentioned on the statement. What a security ....!!!

That was just one thing. The statement itself irritated me beyond anything. Even this statement was saying ke I'll have to pay Rs 606.07 - due date 5th Oct. Did I mentioned that I haven't yet received the statement hard copy and got this email only after explicitly asking for it? i.e., I'll again receive another statement next month asking for Rs 900 as late-fine for the 3rd month. Was now heavily cursing Axis. Called up again. This time it took 15 minutes to get through the wait. Again the person over the phone said that I don't have to pay anything, he had forwarded it to highest proper authorities, so and so.

Can't really trust these people. Every time I call, I'm assured that the complain is registered and all's good. But again I'm sent one statement as if they never heard anything from me. The cycle repeates. I tell you, U must be really careful before applying for any credit-card. Whatever you do, don't fall for the trap of Axis-bank.

    I too had a bitter experience with axis bank.During the card registration they mentioned its lifelong free card.But they send me a bill 2250(main card & Addon ).I made a complaint at the branch which is at Madhapur , hyderabad.They replied me the transaction would be reveresed.Ironically thats not happend , next month i got latepayment charhes and other stuff.I send many emails and made many calls and all my afforts went vain.Finally one fine day they debited 5400 from my saving bank(Unfortunately my saving account is Axis Bank).Atlast iam able to get rid of this card , but the money has not reversed.
    Its happend to many of my collegues,I personally feel that we are well cheated by axis bank
    Another problem with axis is we dont get the statements before the due date top

    AXIS BANK SUCKS!!! specially their Malviya Nagar branch. WHat the hell is wrong with this so call customer friendly workers...they are most disrespectful of the customers grievance and if one try to contact them over the ph they will make you wait for hrs...shame on them! top

    @Sreedhar - That's how things are with the Axis bank. They send the statement from the central branch, Mumbai. So, we receive the bill much after the due date.

    Just last week, I received another bill from Axis for Rs. 330 towards Annual fee, even though I hadn't used it for 6 months now. I had to call them up again and this time, I canceled my card. Got rid of the devil.

    Fortunately for me, all my 'charges' were always reverted back.

    @Anonymous - I've faced this 'on-hold' issue many a times, since I had to call them every time I received a bill. Seems like they put customers on hold, go for a coffee and then come back n reply. top

    axis asking me a fixed deposit against which they told me they will give me a card annual and renewal free , now i decided not to go for any fixed deposit or credit card from axis bank. I read a lot of bad review about axis bank now i really scared. top
